KARACHI: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat expressed displeasure over law enforcement agencies’ failure to stop the smuggling of narcotics through PIA flights despite mismanagement. The NA Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat met at the Airport Security Force (ASF), Headquarters, Karachi, under the chair of MNA Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan. The NA body was of the view that the departments were using delaying tactics to finalise inquiry reports against narcotics smugglers.
The committee, therefore, directed that the PIA security in-charge might be suspended immediately as he was unable to stop the frequent smuggling through PIA flights. The committee directed that ASF might develop proper coordination among the agencies working on similar grounds to stop the smuggling of narcotics through the national carrier which was damaging the prestige of Pakistan internationally. The committee further directed that ASF might take stringent measures to prevent airports from terrorist attacks. Earlier, officials from Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and ASF told the committee security agencies often faced hindrances in their work due to political pressure. “A video of Ayyan Ali is present which reveals an important officer from the previous government as her facilitator,” the ASF director said. The ASF official added that the officer in question made the most noise when the model was arrested. The security agencies were told that the money was being sent to a mosque, he said.
